Mehr und mehr Menschen möchten heutzutage nachhaltig einkaufen. Das hat dazu geführt das manche Mode Firmen versuchen etwas umweltfreundlicher zu produzieren. Jedoch scheinen viele zu vergessen, welcher Markt am umweltfreundlichsten ist: deine lokalen Kunsthandwerker:innen!
Leider sinkt die Anzahl von Kunsthandwerkern in Deutschland. In 1999 gab es in Deutschland 7144 Kunsthandwerker:innen in der Schmuckherstellung und in 2021 waren es nur noch 4443. Das bedeutet dass wir heute 38% weniger Kunsthandwerker:innen in der Schmuckherstellung haben als vor 20 Jahren. Das liegt aber nicht dran, dass wir weniger Schmuck kaufen. Nein, ganz im Gegenteil, in 2022 war der Gesamtumsatz für Schmuck in Deutschland 3,2 Milliarden Euro. Leider, ging aber sehr wenig von diesem Geld an lokale Kunsthanderwerker:innen.
Natürlich kann man als Kunsthandwerker preislich nicht mit Serien Produktionen konkurrieren und sehr billige Ringe, Ketten oder Ohrringe verkaufen. Ich habe jedoch das Gefühl, dass wir immer mehr das handgemachte Einzelstück zu schätzen wissen. Vor Allem, wenn man so ein Stück mit gutem Gewissen kaufen und tragen kann. Wenn Du also umweltfreundlich und auch kultur unterstützend kaufen möchtest, dann empfehle ich zu schauen ob du einen lokalen gold oder silber schmied finden kannst. Dort findest du sicherlich wunderschönen echtschmuck, und kannst mit deinem kauf die Kreativität um dich herum unterstützen.

More and more consumers worldwide are trying to be more environmentally conscious in their purchases. Big companies know this, and are trying to be more eco-friendly in their production. Yet, there is one market place which is the most eco-friendly and environmentally conscious place to buy - your local artisans!
In 1999 Germany had 7144 Artisan Jewelry makers, in 2021 this number sunk to 4443. A 38% decrease in lokal Silver and Goldsmiths does not mean that people are buying less jewelry. Actually quite the contrary, in 2022 the sales volume for Jewelry was 3.2 Billion euros in Germany alone. Most of that money, however, did not go to the local artists all around us. Of course a local artist won’t be able to compete with rings, necklaces or bracelets made by people being payed (very very) little. But I encourage all of you, who want to feel good about how you spend your money, too look for local gold or silver smiths and see who may be making some beautiful jewelry near you.
I don’t need to explain the decrease in your ecological footprint if you buy local. But I can tell you, that on top of making an environmentally conscious purchase, you are also supporting an artist who put their love into every piece. By doing so, you are keeping a culture of art and craft alive all around you.
